Yesterday, Tuesday 9th June, despite a couple of heavy showers during play the children of St Joseph’s Meigh, St Michaels Killean and St Monnina’s Cloghogue took part in the 9th running of the Tom Mallon Memorial Primary Schools Tournament.
All the spectators were treated to a wonderful morning of football as each game was blessed with wonderful skill, bravery and sportsmanship. Each child was a tremendous advertisement for the school they represented and there is no doubt the future of football in the parish is extremely bright by what we witnessed today.
Tom loved seeing young people develop the skills of the game and would have been a proud man today. Developing primary schools football in the area was a huge part of his legacy as principal of Killean for many years and the fruits of that work was seen today.
At the finish Cloughogue ended Killean's run of four consecutive victories after one of the highest quality and keenly contested finals in the competitions history.
Many thanks to everyone who made today such a success and especially to the children who performed so brilliantly. It was wonderful also to see so many of Tom’s fellow club stalwarts presenting some of the prizes afterwards.
